Job Description

Pay rate ranges from $57.00 to $61.75 based on experience. GENERAL STATEMENT:Under the supervision of the Director of Throughput, the RN Bed Coordinator is responsible for the application of best practices, judgement and technical nursing skills to facilitate optimal patient flow through the institution.The RN Bed Coordinator works collaboratively with interdisciplinary staff, internal as well as external to the organization, to achieve favorable patient outcomes.Responds to occupancy bed demands with action oriented steps geared toward maintaining acute bed access for patients within the hospital s delivery system.The RN Bed Coordinator is the liaison between all points of entry (ED, PACU/OR, transfers and direct admissions).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:-Assigns patients to available beds to avoid delays in patient arrival to units.-Communicates with the physicians and nursing units, to ensure appropriate placement of patients in a timely manner.-Promotes optimum utilization of hospital beds; communicates with staff regarding bed availability and current census.-Confirms beds are assigned based on level of care. -Address any conflicts or issues arising from dissatisfaction with bed assignments.-Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and conducts daily walking rounds to assess and reassess areas of gridlock.-Maintains communication with admitting office frequently each day regarding patient movement within the facility and within the system.-Utilizes a triage technique when patient placement and bed demands are high.-Applies policy of HIPPA Regulation/Patient confidentiality by safeguarding the Protected Health Information (PHI).-Participates in the department s performance improvement initiatives to continuously improve the quality of patient care.-Maintains competency and updates knowledge of standards of practice related to patient throughput.-Performs related duties as required.-All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act.-Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.
Schedule Notes:2 positions
1- Day 7a - 7:30 pm, 3 days alternate weekends
1-Night 7pm - 7:30 am, 3 days alternate weekends

Skills: Experience: -A minimum of three (3) years experience in a clinical environment, preferably intensive care/emergency department nursing. -Previous throughput experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:-Demonstrated ability to direct and triage in a highly fluid dynamic operational environment.-Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and assess and triage clinical critical patient needs. -Excellent prioritization and communication skills.-Demonstrated ability to implement, support and effectively monitor change required.-Ability to collaborate with all layers of the management/administrative team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: -Physically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolonged periods of standing, reaching and walking throughout the day.-Position will require stooping, bending, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 35 pounds for routine performance. -An individual in this position may be exposed to: Adverse indoor environmental conditions, blood borne pathogens, blood and body fluids, physical hazards (e.g. needle sticks, etc.) communicable diseases.-Full range of body motion, able to lift up to 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist lifting and moving patients.-Manual and finger dexterity, as well as hand and eye coordination.-Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.-Frequently sitting at desk working on a computer.-Ability to flex working hours.

Additional

Education: Education: -Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS: -Current NY State RN License required.-Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
