Job Description

Pay rate ranges from $16.50 to $29 based on experience. JOB TITLE:

Orthopedic Surgical Tech (Certification not required).
This is a multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center. Surgical Techs with a specialty are expected to cross-train to become multi-specialty.

SCHEDULE:


Days, 5x8s. 6:30a-3p. No nights, weekends, or major holidays

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:


Must have at least 2+ years of experience as a Surgical Tech
Must be an experienced Surgical Tech

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Scrubs for cases according to established sterile procedures, dons sterile gown and gloves, and assists the surgeons with the same. In doing so, set up the back table and mayo stand, count all necessary items according to procedure, check case supplies, and prepare supplies/equipment utilizing preference cards to assemble all necessary supplies/equipment before the patient arrives in the room.
Displays competency (via leveling program guidelines) in less than 5 services.
Services include General, Plastics, Ortho, Podiatry, Gyne, GU, Eye, ENT, and Oral Surgery.
Observes sterile techniques of all personnel, assists in draping, passes instruments, sponges, sutures, and other sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assistants during procedures, holds retraction devices, and acts to anticipate and respond to surgeons' needs during surgery.
Receives surgical specimens, places them in the same preservative solutions, and notifies circulating nurses of the source of material.
Counts sponges, needles, and instruments used during surgery before closing, and assists with sterile dressing of the operative site following closing.
Assists with circulating duties under the direct supervision of registered nurses.
Cleans operating room and disposes of used case carts and instruments according to established procedures.
Assists in returning supplies and equipment to proper storage; separates, cleans, and prepares instruments as necessary, and so forth.
Functions as a clinical resource person to various department personnel, new employees, and student technologists. Assist by precepting students and new employees.
Attends mandatory department meetings. Keeps current regarding developments in surgical equipment, trends, and techniques, through appropriate in-service programs.
Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with the department and outside agencies.
Supports and participates in the ASC's continuous quality improvement efforts designed to increase patient outcomes, increase patient satisfaction, and improve the utilization of the ASC's human, capital, and physical resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:


The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit.
This requires that the incumbent demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
Work requires the ability to read and write to interpret schedules and prepare for operative procedures, knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, through successful completion of an accredited program in Surgical Technology, usually one year beyond high school.
Work requires surgical technologists to be able to accurately identify large volumes of surgical instruments and supplies, acquire necessary familiarity with surgeons' preferences, and gain knowledge of unit policies and procedures.
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, surgeons, and other patient care personnel, often during emergency or stressful situations.
Analytical skills are necessary to organize and prepare the operating room according to standard methods and procedures.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:


Works primarily in surgical suites with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, and the like.
Works in a patient care area where there is exposure to infectious disease, although potential for personal harm or bodily injury is limited when employee follows all safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
Exposure to latex products.
