Pay rate ranges from $27.93 to $30.26 based on experience. "GENERAL STATEMENT:Provide nutritional support and assistance with personal hygiene and the environmental maintenance necessary for patient care. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES: Prepare and serve normal diets and eating. Assist with personal care and grooming to include items such as brushing teeth, care of hair, including shampooing, shaving, and the ordinary care of nails. Assist with bathing and bedpan/commode needs. Assist in moving from bed to chair, wheelchair, and walking. Assist Resident with dressing, arrange schedule so that Resident follows medical recommendations, such as, increased physical activity. Keep simple records as instructed by nurse. Remind/assist Resident to take self-administered medications that have been ordered by the prescribing practitioner. Report any changes in the Resident s mental or physical condition or environment to the Director of Patient Services/Nurse.Incidental Household functions: Prepare and serve meals according to instructions, makes and changes bed, dust and vacuum Resident s room as directed. Also wash dishes, tidy kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and shopping. Take care of Resident s personal laundry as identified in the plan of care.
The following functions will not be performed by Personal Care Aide under any circumstances: Perform a Foley catheter irrigation, apply a sterile dressing or a non-sterile dressing, give enemas or remove impactions, perform colostomy irrigation, perform gastric lavage or gavage. Also, cares for tracheotomy tube perform vaginal irrigation, insert tampons. Administer medication in any form such as injections, suppositories or oral form of medication. Make judgments or give advice on medical or nursing problems. Perform any personal care not included by the nurse in plan of care. Apply heat in any form, including hot water bottle, heating pads, heating lamps, and electric curlers. Massage or rub legs. Cut finger or toe nails. Perform decubitus care. Restrain Resident. Lift heavy objects, cut grass, shovel snow or move heavy furniture. Add bath oil to tub water.

Skills: "Knowledge and Skills: Good interpersonal skills. Ability to fully utilize BHMC s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position. Ability to read, writes, and speaks English sufficiently to understand and perform responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. Ability to position and partially lift patient for personal hygiene is required."
